Spartanburg Philharmonic Winter Concerts

The Spartanburg Philharmonic has a musical heritage dating back to the late 19th century. It began as the Spartanburg Music Association and grew over the years through a series of music festivals and an affiliation with the music department of Converse College. In 1948 the association became the Music Foundation of Spartanburg, which sponsored the Spartanburg Symphony Orchestra. Today the Spartanburg Philharmonic is under the musical direction of Sarah Ioannides, who is in her 7th year with the orchestra. Ioannides has made guest conducting appearances with symphonies in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. Here are some of the highlights of upcoming winter concerts.

The January 28 concert will begin with James Horners Titanic Medley. This selection commemorates the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. It will be followed by Bachs Concerto for Two Violins, featuring Sara Johnson, concertmaster, and Mary Irwin, Principal Second Violin. The concerto is a popular piece from the Baroque Period. Sibelius Symphony No. 2, D Major will also be on the program.

The concert on February 25 will feature the Augsburger Geigenbande, a string octet made up of members of the Schwamm family from Germany. The evening will begin with Mozarts Sinfonia Concertante, with Katharina Schwamm on violin and her sister Teresa Schwamm on viola. This will be followed by Poulencs Sinfonietta. The Philharmonic will perform during the first two selections. During the final part of the program the Schwamm family will perform Bavarian folk music, selections for fiddle, and even classic Beatles music. The evening promises to be entertaining for all.

On March 31 the audience will be treated to the U.S. premier of Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodis Zephyros, followed by Liszts Piano Concerto No. 1 and Beethovens Symphony No. 3, Eroica. The program will feature young pianist George Li, winner of the prestigious 2010 Cooper International Piano Competition. The 16-year old pianist has won numerous awards and received worldwide recognition as a talented soloist. Li has received a full four year scholarship to Oberlin Conservatory of Music. This will be his second appearance with the Spartanburg Philharmonic.

Performances are held at Twitchell Auditorium on the campus of Converse College. The auditorium is located at the front of the campus at 580 E. Main Street in downtown Spartanburg. Free parking is available in two adjacent lots on campus. Reserved tickets for the concerts range from $10-$35. Concert Tickets Buying As A Christmas Gift Has Its Dangers.

Its the season to be jolly, merry and giving, and one of the best ways to give is by buying someone you care for a gift that will last in their memories forever.

Its safe to say that almost everyone will have a love of music, and that people have more than one favorite pop star, pop group or soloist in one form or another, and how special it is to not just see them live, but hear and listen to them live, on stage, right before your eyes. The whole atmosphere will be electric and the hour plus of music will bring happiness to anyone there.

Now. Imagine been able to give this experience to a loved one, family member or a dear friend. Just think of the enjoyment this will bring. And nowadays it does not matter how old or young that special person is, they are going to always remember that moment and who allowed it to happen.

So for something different this Christmas, buy them a concert ticket from one of the many online concert ticket websites. The choice is immense and one of the many advantages is that you can buy a ticket for an event in the next few months, or for later on in the New Year. Either way it is a gift that will be truly valued.

Now imagine, that after you have chosen your online ticket website to buy the expensive ticket from, doesn’t fulfill the promise of sending out the ticket on time. You try to contact the customer services number but cannot get through. Your numerous emails or ignored and you feel panicked and regret, as you bought this gift for that special person. Then a friend tells you to do some research online about the ticket website you bought it from. Gasp, horror, you find numerous forums, review sites and a website setup to warn people of the many problems the website you purchased the ticket from has. People who have paid for concert tickets, sporting events, in fact any ticket for any event advertised on the website. You start to feel that horribly sinking feeling, sickly feeling of that the worse is happening, you have visited a website that isn’t quite what it makes out to be and youre in a very boat with thousands of others.

So the moral if any out of this it to remember to do your research first when purchasing anything online. This will save a lot of heart ache and lost money that you will never probably get back.

Concert Tickets Online Use A Well Known Vendor

The sale of counterfeit concert tickets online is a growing problem. Major rock bands and other concert attractions are warning customers through their websites to watch out for fake tickets to their popular tours. Counterfeit concert tickets will not be honored, and the purchaser will likely lose both the opportunity to enjoy the concert, as well as the money invested in the tickets. The following guidelines are intended to help customers avoid purchasing counterfeit concert tickets online.
When you are considering buying concert tickets online, make certain you do so by purchasing them from a trustworthy seller running a secure web site. Trustworthy, reputable sellers will likely be listed with the Better Business Bureau, and as such, you will see the BBB logo on the front page of their web site. If you doubt the veracity, you can go to the Better Business Bureau’s web site and check them out for yourself.
The majority of trustworthy vendors will show the symbols for Verisign, Hacker Safe or other such companies. The web address, or URL of the credit card transaction section of a reliable website will start with “https” rather than “http”, which means the information which is being transmitted will be encrypted for your protection. Additionally, a padlock symbol may appear in the browser window, further indicating the encryption of information.
There is a certain amount of risk involved when you book a low-priced ticket through net. Characteristically tickets purchased through auction sites do not comprise a reimbursement pledge, contrasting you get it from other vendors. Prior to purchasing concert tickets online through an public sale site, detailed background study of the auction vendor is sensible.
You can always wait in line at the box office to purchase tickets, but buying tickets at the last minute may mean seats that are not the best. If you wait until the last minute to buy tickets, you also risk the event being sold out. Ultimately, the risk of sold out concert tickets is an indication that purchasing tickets online is best guarantee of getting a good seat to a popular event.
Finally, avoid buying tickets through street-side ticket scalpers. The risk of purchasing counterfeit or stolen tickets through ticket scalpers is very high. Additionally, ticket scalping is illegal in many jurisdictions. Performing a little background research of the concert ticket sales company will greatly reduce the risk of an unpleasant surprise marring a memorable experience.

Will Insane Clown Posse Concerts Still Be Energetic In 2012

In a word, yes, but there may be an ounce of truth to their assertion that the Psychopathic Records horror rap veterans arent as lively on stage as they once were. Thats not to say that that Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope are coming out on stage in wheel chairs, but for the astute ICP ticket buyer and Insane Clown Posse concert observer, there is a slightly noticeable difference in the live ICP of 1994 and the ICP of 2012.

ICP Tickets still sell like hotcakes, Insane Clown Posse concerts are still the best time youll have going to any Psychopathic Records artist concert. The vast majority of Insane Clown Posse concerts were sold out in 2011, most Juggalos more than happy to fork over the dollars required for Psychopathic Records artists like ICPs tickets these days (the average concert ticket for any musical group has increased exponentially since the early 90s, this trend is not isolated to ICP tickets).

As videos of Insane Clown Posse concerts on YouTube will demonstrate, those who buy ICP tickets or tickets to any Psychopathic Records artist concert in 2012 are still in for a treatthe songs are still delivered impeccably, the crowd taunting still hostile, and the on-stage props/sideshows still present. However, the jarring dance movements and swag evident on stage at Insane Clown Posse concerts in years past has now given way to softer choreography that seems less inspired. Also, buying an ICP ticket in 2011 doesnt guarantee a Faygo shower like it once did.

However, 2011 was not a year in which ICP tickets were sold for the purpose of promoting a new album. 2012 will differ in that sense, as the guys will be releasing Mighty Death Pop!, their first album in 3 years through Psychopathic Records (the label they own), and any Insane Clown Posse tour dates in support thereof are bound to me the duos most energetic in years. Buying an ICP ticket this year would be a smart move, as it will probably be the last time an Insane Clown Posse concert contains the spirit of a new release in the next 4 years or so.

Of course there will be music released from the younger artists on Psychopathic Records, and maybe even some from those artists who are being groomed in the Psychopathic Records subsidiary, Hatchet House, but we all know that Insane Clown Posse concerts are the cream of this crop.

There are no ICP tickets for the Mighty Death Pop! tour available yet, but thats because the supporting Psychopathic Records artists and dates havent even been announced yet. The best way to make sure you see this new material performed live by Insane Clown Posse in concert, then make your way to 2012s Gathering of the Juggalos where youll not only see that, but also performance by numerous other Psychopathic Records artists.

How To Stay Safe At A Concert

Everyone enjoys a concert to see a favorite band or discover a new one. This popularity however, is a problem. What comes with everyone wanting to attend a concert is a massive and dangerous crowd of fans. Parting with these concerts, shows, and festivals in often not an acceptable alternative to going, and that is perfectly understandable. While attending these events however, there are plenty of things to be aware of. Here we will cover a few tips and advice as to how to get the most out of a safe experience at a concert.
The number one rule given is most often bring someone with you. This is a pretty common practice anyways so this shouldnt be too much work to accomplish. The difference here though is to make sure you both (or all) are on the same page. Cell phone communication is unfortunately overestimated when in a crowded area being overloaded with other phones. To supplement this problem, consider designating a meet-up point in which the party will meet onsite if you lose contact with each other. A separated but relatively close location to the central attraction is most often the appropriate choice.
The main concern is when a disaster strikes. A crowded area full of inebriated fans and devout enthusiasts is often an equation for conflicts and, worse, crowd-wide disturbances. Issues in the past have caused a disturbing amount of injuries and even deaths due to a lack of proper preparation by those who should have been in control. Unfortunately, event organizers often bypass safety protocol to increase their profits. This puts the burden of awareness and safety on you. Locate at least two exits (whether it be in an enclosed facility or an outdoor concert) in order to choose the best in the event of an evacuation.
Austin City Limits is an Austin local music festival that occurs once a year and is happening from the 16th to the 18th. This is prime opportunity to enact those responsible decisions, including limiting alcohol consumption and avoiding fights. Other large events, such as Fiesta in San Antonio, are other examples of times to prepare. Have fun but be aware of the feel of the crowd and stay conscious of others around you. Better to be safe than sorry; slips, falls, or even a stage collapse are risks. In the unfortunate event that you are harmed from some sort of negligence, consider contacting a San Antonio personal injury attorney.

The Concert Of Europe – Did It Ensure Peace

The Concert of Europe Did It Ensure Peace?

By the time Napoleon had been exiled to St. Helena in 1815, Europe had been at war almost perpetually since 1792.

Napoleons conquests had spread the doctrines of liberalism and nationalism through most of Europe, leading to the overthrow of several monarchies.
The victors of the Napoleonic Wars wanted to restore Europe to the status quo that existed before 1789, reversing the liberal and nationalistic doctrines spread by Napoleons armies.

For a time, the Concert of Europe achieved some success. In Spain (1820) and in Italy (1822), it crushed rebellions that were intent on establishing constitutional governments. Both of these outcomes enhanced the Concerts prestige, as it demonstrated its capacity to enforce the territorial settlements of the Congress of Vienna.

However, in the longer term, the Concert of Europes early successes faded as the unified coalition against Napoleon was replaced by increasing political and economic discord within the group. When revolutions broke out in South America during the 1820s, Great Britain refused to support action against the Spanish colonies. She was afraid that, if the rebellions were ended by force, it would lose profitable trading opportunities with Spain.

In the end this division within the Concert of Europe became moot as the United States issued the Monroe Doctrine in 1823. The Doctrine permitted European Powers to keep their existing colonies in the New World. However, it clearly stated that the establishment of new colonies or military intervention in the Americas would be seen as acts of aggression, which would be met by US intervention.

More significantly, diverging national interests led to a series of conflicts between the members of the Concert. Britain went to war with Russia (1853-1856), Prussia went to war against Austria (1866) and Prussia defeated France in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871).

Despite these failures, the Concert of Europe (also known as the Congress System) did achieve some successes. Through the Congress of Berlin (1878), the Concert of Europe completed the reorganization of the various Balkan states. Romania, Serbia and Montenegro all gained full independence while Austria-Hungary gained control over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the surface, the Congress of Berlin appeared to stabilize Europe. However, Austrias control over Bosnia and Herzegovina provoked tension with Russian nationalists who saw both countries as lying within Russias sphere of influence. Because Germany was now so closely aligned with Austrian interests in the Balkans, it also became the object of intense animosity from Russian nationalists and supporters of Pan Slavism.

In the end, the Concert of Europe failed to ensure long term peace. In the several years preceding World War I, it effectively ceased to function, replaced by a series of competing alliances. These opposing alliances contributed significantly to the onset of World War I.
